Water is an essential part of living on the Earth. It doesn’t possess a nutritious value by itself, but none of the living organisms on our planet can exist without water. For any person water is the most precious natural treasure, more valuable than oil, gas or gold, because it is irreplaceable. Total quantity of water in the organism of a person depends on the age and constitution. Water compounds about 60% of active body weight of most adults. With the ageing the quantity of water in the organism decreases. If upon the birth water compounds 75%, in elderly age it averages 65% of the body. Without food people can survive more than a month, if they drink water; without water they will hardly survive a week. Sufficient entry of water into human organism is one of the conditions of healthy way of living. In this case water performs the following functions: 1. Moistures the oxygen for the breath. 2. Regulates temperature of the body. 3. Helps to assimilate nutrients. 4. Protects life important organs. 5. Helps to transform food to energy. 6. Participates in the metabolism, allows decreasing of fat tissues and lose weight. 7. “Lubricates” joints, allays the stresses of the spinal cord. 8. Destroys slag, salt excesses, which makes for the decrease of blood pressure. 9. Prevents calculus formation in the organism. 10. Provides skin elasticity. If people get the sufficient quantity of water, they become more cheerful and sturdy. With the insufficient consumption of water the normal vital functions of the organism get broken: tiredness appears, capacity of work decreases, the processes of digestion and food assimilation get broken, the process of hematosis gets broken as well. The support of the constant body temperature is impossible without water, as the regulation of the heat exchange with the environment is broken. The human organism suffers the hardest stress; dehydration weakens it and makes it vulnerable for diseases. A constant lack of water in the organism – chronic dehydration – is a reason of many diseases: asthma, allergy, increased arterial pressure, excess weight, malfunction of kidneys, joint pains. A correct water intake schedule implies keeping of physiological water balance – it is balancing of water intake and its formation with the discretion. Human need of water depends on many factors: state of health, working activity, age, and climate. For people having a sedentary work by the temperature 18-22 0С the loss of water compounds 2,5-3,0 l a day. In the process of breath 0,5l of liquid is lost, during the perspiration – about the same quantity. By the intracellular metabolism about 1,5l of metabolic water is formed, the rest 1,5l shall be replenished by the water intake scheduling. In some cases you shall drink even more: particularly, when having high temperature, consumption of salted food, suffering from oncologic diseases, passing the course of radiotherapy etc. How to avoid dehydration: 1. It is necessary to drink 1-2 glasses of water before going out in hot weather. But when out in hot weather you shouldn’t drink too much water as it intensifies perspiration.2. You shall drink more water in cold weather as well. On the frost the organism consumes more energy; much water is lost while breathing. 3. It is necessary to drink more water in case of high body temperature. 4. Much more water is required for pregnant and breast-feeding women. 5. Coffee and alcohol also lead to dehydration. Per each cup of coffee or alcohol a portion of additional glass of water shall be drunk. 6. Smoking furthers dehydration. Smoking people shall drink more water. A healthy man shall not constrain himself in water. However you shall remember that it is healthier to drink frequently and little by little. Nowadays everybody can create conditions of keeping the priceless hydra balance by means of regular water intake scheduling. The water we drink shall contain elements useful for people. The quality of water is determined according to their content. First of all it regards such necessary elements and microelements as magnesium, potassium, sodium, sulfur, iodine and others. Magnesium is necessary for the formation of some enzymes, potassium –for the muscular system activity and nervous stimulation transfer, calcium is the component part of bones and teeth, sodium is the main ion of intracellular liquid and a considerable part of sweat. Sulfur is necessary for the formation of albumens and of the processes connected with the energy transfer. Iodine is irreplaceable for the human health. The organism needs it constantly. Iodine influences the production of thyroid hormones, which regulate the activity of all the endocrine glands, nervous system and the work of vessels and heart. Potable water shall not contain elements harmful for the human organism. t’s not a secret that the tap water, which is drunk by the greatest part of population, is often dirty or rusty and smells bad. 1/3 of such water comes in from the surface water intakes; it has to be disinfected and lightened with the help of chlorine or to be completely cleaned from all the substances, removing 80% of salts. As a result the water doesn’t contain any microelements and, in fact, is “dead”. There is no natural potable or mineral water without microelements: the very microelements make the water tasty and useful. The main showing of natural water is the common mineralization – it is a showing of the quantity of the dissolved substances contained in water (inorganic salts, organic substances). The most important contribution to the common water mineralization is made by inorganic salts (hydrogen carbonates, chlorides and sulfates of potassium, magnesium, calcium and sodium) and a little number of organic substances. Depending on the mineralization the following categories of waters can be distinguished:
The following classes of mineral waters differ by the chemical content: hydrogen carbonates, chloride, sulfate and waters of complicated content. Hydrogen carbonate waters influence wholesome the carbohydrate and albumen exchange, possess an antiphlogistic action, decrease acidity and make for the normalization of the peristalsis. Besides, they improve the absorption of macro- and microelements and remove slag. Hydrogen carbonate waters are indicated in case of stomach and duodenal ulcer, colitis, enteritis, pancreatitis, chronic hepatitis, urolithiatis and chronic cystitis. This kind of waters increases the alkaline reserves of the organism. They normalize the peristalsis. That is why they are applied for the treatment of gastritis with the high secretion and acidity. In this case they shall be taken 1,5-2 hours before the meal. Hydrogen carbonate waters help during the treatment of podagra, insular diabetes, and different infectious diseases. But they shall not be drunk in case of chronic bilateral pyelonephritis, renal insufficiency, and diseases of urinary tracts. Chloride waters, on the contrary, possess stimulating features in respect with the gastrointestinal tract. They increase the secretory function of the stomach, stimulate cholepoiesis, firm the pancreas, and regulate the peristalsis. Chloride waters are recommended usually for the people suffering on gastritis with the low secretion or abnormalities of bowels and liver functioning. They can be used in a complex therapy of vascular dystonia and obesity as well. Chloride waters shall not be used in case of any form of ischemic heart disease and arterial hypertension. They are also contra-indicated in case of malignant growth of gastrointestinal tract. It is recommended to drink them 10-15 minutes before a meal. Chloride waters are contra-indicated in case of high acidity of digestive juices, allergy, and pregnancy. Sulfate waters are cholagogic and depletive. Sulfates reduce the congestion of bile, normalize liver functioning, influence efficiently an albumen and cholesterol exchange. Sulfate waters are indicated in case of hearth illnesses, obesity, diabetes and removing of gall-bladder. They shall be taken 0,5-2 hours before a meal. Sulfate waters are contra-indicated to children and teen-agers in the period of bone skeleton formation, as they can impede the assimilation of calcium by the growing organism. Most mineral waters have complicated mixed structure (chloride-sulfate, hydrogen carbonated–sulfate waters etc.). Due to their complicated content they have a many-sided effect on any organism. Increase of reduction of their effect depends on the applied intake methods. By the grade of concentration of mineral salts the natural mineral waters can be divided as following: -Table - Therapeutic -table - Therapeutic Table water. Mineral water is suitable for every day use. The content of salts in it doesn’t exceed 1 g per 1 liter of water. As a rule, it is mild, tasty, without a foreign smell or taste. Not occasionally some soft drinks are made on the basis of the table water. The table water has a status of drinking water. Therapeutic-table water. This kind of water can contain from 1 to 10 grams of salts per 1 liter of water. The advantage of the therapeutic-table waters consists in their multifunctional features: they can be used as a table drink and systematically – for the treatment. Therapeutic water. The water richest in the salt content. To this category refer the mineral waters with the mineralization of more than 10 grams per 1 liter, or the waters with the high content of active microelements such as arsenic or boron. One shall drink it strictly following the directions of a doctor. The health and the quality of life of any person depend directly on the things one eats and drinks. Everybody can improve their health, but only in case they listen to their feelings and reflect on their way of life, behavior and food. The quality of water is the quality of life!!! |
